Whether you’re selling a luxury home in Redlands or you’re putting your Grand Junction condo on the market, chances are good that you’re going to need to remove some of your furniture so it shows well.
Study after study has proven that most homes show better with less furniture, and yours is probably one of them. Your Realtor® will walk you through the specifics, but just know that you may want to rent a storage unit before you sell so you have a safe place to stash your furnishings when the time comes.
Why Should You Rent a Storage Unit Before You Sell?
Any furniture that impedes traffic flow, no matter what room it’s in, has to go as part of the staging process. Make sure paths and walkways are clearly defined. Extra leaves from the dining room table can go into storage, as can empty book shelves (you know, the ones you cleared off while you were decluttering your home).
The idea is to leave just enough furniture in each room to let buyers know what the room’s supposed to be used for.
Your knickknacks, extra kitchen equipment (like the crock pot you haven’t used in ages but aren’t ready to get rid of), and other odds and ends can go into storage before buyers start coming through, too. Think of it as getting a head start on the packing you’ll have to do anyway; when the time comes, you’ll be glad that you’ve already boxed up many of the things you need to take to your new home.
