Quick: take a guess how many interior doors there are in your home. Now count them. (The actual number is probably higher than you guessed.) With all those doors, you may find that one or more of them could use an upgrade—or at the very least, a paint job.
Sprucing Up Your Interior Doors
If you’re getting your home ready to sell, it’s important not to overlook details. If any of your doors are scuffed, damaged or dirty, you should address this as part of preparing your home for sale. Dirty or scuffed doors may need nothing more than a good scrub.
Some interior doors, particularly panel doors, may benefit from a nice wood stain or a fresh coat of paint. Stick to neutral colors; this is not the time to make a bold design statement. Of course, you may decide to make such a statement in your new home. An interior door can be a great place for an accent color or some artistic detail.
Replacing an Interior Door
Upgrading an interior door—or several—can be a great investment in increasing your home’s appeal to potential buyers. If you decide to upgrade to new interior doors, you have an array of options in style as well as expense.
Hollow-core doors, in particular, can be very affordable and easy to install. These have a lightweight, honeycomb-like interior with solid panel surfaces, usually wood. Solid wood and solid core doors can cost more, but offer superior sound-deadening qualities. You can choose a pre-hung door of either type; or hang it yourself in the existing frame.
